Have you ever thought about going to a hypnosis conference? Lots of people think about attending events such as Hypnothoughts Live, but never go because they are intimidated by the idea of being too inexperienced.
I’m here to tell you that events like this are actually ideal for total beginners! But if you’re a hypnosis trainer or an experienced hypnotherapist you’ll still get tremendous value.
Mike Mandel and I have been attending conferences for several years. We didn’t want to at first, as explained here, but it was among the most important decisions we ever made in our business. We've made new friends, we’ve met hundreds of our students, and most importantly we’ve had a total BLAST.
And if you know anything about us … we like having fun, so if it’s not fun we probably won’t do it. Hypnothoughts Live (in Vegas) and the UKHC (in London) are two of our favourite conferences and we never want to miss them.
Keep reading for more of our thoughts. Or just watch this video.
Last month, in July 2022, we returned to Las Vegas after missing two years due to travel restrictions between Canada and the USA. It was amazing to be back, to connect with friends, and make new friends.
Why should you attend a conference like this? Let’s dive in.
Broad Hypnosis Training
At a conference like Hypnothoughts, you’ll see practically every angle of hypnosis taught in a wide variety of classes.
You’ll learn whatever you want ranging from stage hypnosis, street hypnosis, mentalism, therapeutic techniques and even the business of hypnosis (marketing, course creation, etc)
My favorite class in 2022 was on mentalism, as taught by the brilliant and hilarious Michael C. Anthony. We call him the Godfather of stage hypnosis, and his mentalism class was a wonderful experience for any entertainer or therapist!
That’s because mentalism effects are a wonderful way to break the ice in almost any situation. They’re great before calling up volunteers for an entertainment show. But they’re also amazing to generate client curiosity and establish your prestige before doing a client session.
There were classes on practically everything under the sun at this year’s conference in Las Vegas.
Networking: Everyone is Approachable!
There are a lot of A-list trainers at an event like HT Live. Heck, I’m not even going to attempt to name them all! If I do, I’ll invariably leave one of our friends off the list and then I’ll feel bad later.
These people are ALL approachable, as are Mike and I. We were so thrilled to hear so many people tell us they love our podcast, and our online training. We met so many amazing people just because we walked among the crowd.
Speaking of walking among the crowd, everyone is equal at conferences like HT Live. Speakers are not treated differently. We don’t wear special badges or have special rooms in which we hang out. None of that. We are all the same. Some of us have just been doing this a bit longer than others. And we’re all there to help each other.
Years ago our friend (and brilliant trainer) Jason Linett said “The more we help each other … the more we help each other”.
It’s a tautology, but you get the point! There is synergy in everyone helping each other and live conferences inspire people to connect and assist. It’s wonderful. It’s the reason we feel like we’re all family at these events.
Solve Your Problems
The cool thing about being at a hypnosis conference is that people will typically use and demonstrate hypnotic techniques with audience members. So you may walk in with some everyday problem, and by the end of the event it will be fixed!
You’ll also learn new skills to solve problems. For example, I taught a class called “Videos that Grab Clients”, which helps hypnosis practitioners create non-pushy sales videos to attract clients. We’ve included this video towards the end of this blog post
Similarly, Mike taught a class called “Words that Change Minds” which was all about power language and metaphor. It was an amazing two hour class that helps people understand how to use certain words and language patterns to make change work (and influence) much easier! We’ve also included this class at the bottom of this blog post.
Last, but not least, we recommend you attend conferences for the fun of it. Hypnothoughts Live features a bowling tournament where we all dress up in hilarious costumes and nobody cares about their scores. We laugh. We hug.
We also cry … Well, we cry because we’re laughing so hard!
This year Ken Guzzo arranged a DJ for an 80s party at one of the hotel bars. I admit I wore no costume (poor planning), but nobody made me feel like a dork because I wasn’t dressed up. And some of the costumes were just insanely amazing. I had a great time chatting with everyone and anyone.
Speaking of Ken Guzzo, not only is he a brilliant trainer of hypnosis, but he organizes the most fabulous pool party every year. Of course we’re all just beside the pool, not actually in the pool. But we hang out in the Vegas heat (after it’s cooled down somewhat) and this happens on the Thursday night before the actual conference starts.
We met several of our students for the first time at this pool party. A lot of them later told us that this party really helped them feel comfortable! They’d come to the conference knowing nobody. Being warmly welcomed (and recognized, thanks to Zoom and Facebook) really helped!
Plan to Attend, if Possible!
If there is any way you can get your butt over to Las Vegas for HT Live in 2023 or beyond, please do it. We’re paid nothing to say this. We just love the conference so much we feel compelled to share our positive experience and to encourage you to go.
By the way, if you are one of our students in the Mike Mandel Hypnosis Academy, make sure you connect with us in our monthly Zoom events. That way we’ll recognize you when we see you in Vegas.
